King Edward VII and Queen Mary School - Postmaster
Welcome to the KEQMS postmaster site. This site will give details about our MX systems and contact details.
Inbound mail delivery
List of Bounce errors generated by our servers
For inbound email, the following requirements must be satisfied for our MX systems to accept the RCPT TO: address. Many ISPs require valid reverse DNS before they will accept mail from a sending MTA (including AOL).
- Your sending MTA must have reverse DNS set up.
RFC1912 section 2.1 states that every Internet-connected host should have valid PTR and A records. PTR records must also point back to a valid A record, rather than an alias defined by a CNAME.
If you receive and transmit SMTP on different IP addresses, make sure they ALL have valid PTR/A records configured.
- Your MTA's reverse DNS address must resolve back to your IP address
- Your MAIL FROM: address must be a valid e-mail address, to which we can send mail (i.e. it will be verified)
We also use several DNS black lists, and content-based filtering.
- Mail which is deemed to be above the higher spam confidence level (SCL) is rejected with response code 550
- Mail which is deemed to be below the higher SCL but above the lower SCL is delivered but placed in Junk E-mail folders
- Mail which is deemed to be below the lower SCL is delivered normally
- 550 Reverse DNS and matching forward DNS is required to contact this domain.
Check that you have valid Reverse DNS set up for the IP address your mail server connects out on, and also that it resolves back to you
- 550-Verification failed for <sending-address@domain>
550-Unrouteable address
550 Sender verify failed
We could not verify the sending email address. Check that it exists and that valid MX records are on the domain.
- 550-You are not permitted to send mail to this host. Please see
500 http://postmaster.keqms.co.uk/ (Lx)
Your IP address is listed on a block list (L1 or L2). If you are not a sender of spam, please contact us to find out which list(s) and why.
